The PERFECT drinks to survive the heatwave

Surviving a heatwave in the UK feels like an impossible mission. Windows open, fans on, should I buy an air conditioning unit? IT’S SO HOT.

So, the question is, how do you survive the heatwave?

Well, now that restrictions have eased, you can pop out to a restaurant at lunchtime, have a quick drink in the evening, and have AS MANY friends around as you want!

The best way to survive the heatwave is with a cold drink in your hand – trust me.

And to help you get through the hazy summer days, I’ve put together a list of my top ice-cold drinks for you to enjoy…

Strawberry Daquiri

Nothing says summer to me more than Strawberries. Immediately you think of Wimbledon, strawberry picking, and afternoon tea in the sunshine.

So naturally, the first drink I turn to in the summer is a Strawberry Daquiri. Now in this heat, the only thing to do is to make that a frozen drink – which is what I’ve done…

Ingredients: A handful of crushed ice, 5 large strawberries, 2 teaspoons of sugar, 15ml of lime juice, 60ml of white rum.

Method: As simple as you like. Pop all of the ingredients into a blender and pulse until all of the ice is dissolved! Pour into a chilled martini glass and enjoy.

Sicilian Slush

Maybe you’re not heading away this summer. Perhaps a staycation is on the cards – but that doesn’t mean that you can’t bring a taste of Sicily to your garden!

Pairing Campari with herbal gin and orange juice results in a drink fit to grace any beach in the world. Sunglasses on, friends around, Sicilian Slush in hand, and you’re living your best life.

Ingredients: 120ml Campari, 60ml lemon juice, 60ml orange juice, 60ml gin, 60ml simple syrup, loads of ice, and 4 orange wheels - to garnish.

Method: Blend the Campari, gin, lemon juice, orange juice, simple syrup, and a generous portion of ice until smooth. Taste, and add more simple syrup, if necessary, then divide between 4 rocks or whisky glasses and garnish with the orange wheels!

Vodka Watermelon Cooler

It just sounds refreshing, doesn’t it?

First things first, you’ll need to get your hands on a watermelon. About 1-1.5kg of watermelon, to be precise. Discard the rind and seeds, then cut the flesh into pieces, plus a few slices to garnish.

Ingredients: Watermelon, 120ml vodka, 60ml Triple Sec, ice, and 45ml lime juice.

Method: Pop the watermelon pieces into a blender, then strain through a sieve over a pitcher. Stir in the vodka, Triple Sec, and lime juice. Fill long-stemmed glasses with ice cubes and pour the cooler over, then garnish with a watermelon slice.

There’s plenty of ways to survive in the heat, but some other top tips are:

· Stay in the shade

· Apply sun cream regularly

· Stay out of the sun during the hottest hours of the day (12pm-2pm)

· Drink plenty of water

Whatever you’ve got planned in the fabulous summer weather, whether it’s popping out for a bite to eat, a quick drink at the pub, or having some friends round for a BBQ, enjoy!

Happy celebrations,
