Whatever the weather, life’s a beach – enjoy your summer with these beach-themed cocktails!

Sun, rain, or thunderstorms – those are the usual three options for a British Summer.

Sometimes all in one day.

If you’re jetting off for some summer sun over the next few weeks, then you’ll get your fill of Vitamin D, beaches, and all the cocktails you can get your hands on.

If you’re not, then maybe you can still get your hands on as many cocktails as you can… because why not?!

It’s been a bit of a minefield for many in deciding whether to book a summer holiday, with the risk of Amber+ being added to the government's grading system only throwing fuel on the flames that are quarantining on return.

Thankfully, that’s been ruled out, but I know that many of you will have plumped for a staycation, or you’re still biding your time for a last-minute booking – and hey, good luck!

But whatever your plans for the next few weeks, you can still have a FAB time.

And what better way to do that than with the iconic cocktails you’d be sipping with a fancy straw, umbrella, and fruit garnish on a sunny beach somewhere on the Portuguese coast?

So, where else would we start other than…

Sex on the Beach

Iconic. Nothing comes close to a Sex on the Beach cocktail for summer vibes for me.

It’s got the lot, and it instantly takes me to lying on the beach, the sun beating down, with the sound of the waves gently crashing against the shore whistling in my ears.

So, the only question is, why wouldn’t you want to be in that happy place?!

Ingredients: 50ml vodka, 25ml peach schnapps, 50ml cranberry juice, 100ml orange juice, ice, orange slices and glacé cherries to garnish

Method: Fill two tall glasses with ice. Pour the vodka, peach schnapps, orange juice, and cranberry juice into a large jug and stir. Divide the mixture between two glasses and stir to combine. Garnish with orange slices and cherries.

Tequila Sunrise

It comes with an umbrella. It literally has sunrise in the name.

What more do you need to know?

Tequila Sunrise is the drink you order at a bar on the beach when you first arrive on holiday. It’s a ‘dive right in’ cocktail that captures the taste of summer and transports you to a happy place.

Ingredients: 50ml tequila, 15ml triple sec, 50ml orange juice, 10ml grenadine, 30ml lemon juice, ice, and glacé cherry to garnish.

Method: Pour the grenadine into the base of a tall glass and put it to one side. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add the tequila, triple sec, orange juice, and lemon juice. Shake until the shaker feels icy cold.

Add ice to the serving glass and double strain the cocktail into it. Add more ice if needed and garnish with a cherry on a stick, and of course, a cocktail umbrella. Because why not.

Passion Fruit Martini

Passion Fruit Martini’s have become one of THE go-to cocktails on the menu these days. And you only have to taste one to know why – it’s possibly the best-tasting cocktail available.

No airs, no graces. Just delicious tropical fruit flavours packed with the fizz of prosecco, smooth vodka, and served in a martini glass.

And who doesn’t love a martini glass?

It’s up to you whether you want to drink the Prosecco as a shot/aperitif or pop it in your Martini for an extra bit of fizz, but I always opt for the latter. It makes things a bit more interesting!

Ingredients: 60ml vanilla vodka, 30ml passoa, 2 ripe passion fruits (halved), 15ml lime juice, 15ml sugar syrup, ice, and prosecco to serve.

Method: Scoop the seeds from one of the passion fruits into the glass of a cocktail shaker. Add the vodka, passoa, lime, ice, and sugar syrup. Shake well, then strain into 2 martini glasses. Top up with prosecco OR add the prosecco to two shot glasses and serve. Add half a passion fruit to each glass and enjoy!

You don’t have to be at the beach to enjoy the feeling of the beach. Sure, being at the beach is ALWAYS the winner – but as soon as the sun comes out again (it will, I have faith), then all you’re really missing is the sand.

Crack open that bar, get the cocktail shaker out, and treat yourself to the taste of summer!

Happy celebrations,
